Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has emphasized the importance of aggression in his bowling and explained how it contributes to his success. In the World Test Championship Final between India and Australia at the Oval, Siraj, who is a crucial part of Team India’s fast bowling attack, stated that he believes aggression is an integral aspect of Test cricket.
Siraj made a significant impact in the first innings of this ultimate Test match, taking 4 wickets for 108 runs and playing a vital role in restricting the Australian team to a score of 500 runs. In the second innings, he managed to take only one wicket.
Speaking in a video by the ICC, Siraj discussed the significance of aggression in his bowling and said:
“Aggression is highly important in my bowling. It is everything in Test cricket. It’s not just about bowling ordinary deliveries and doing nothing. Unlike some bowlers who just bowl here and there with aggression, my bowling is accurate. The more aggressive I am, the more success I achieve.”
Siraj went on to talk about his cricket journey and revealed that he started playing cricket with a tennis ball and never thought he would play for India. Siraj said:
“I used to play tennis ball cricket before. I never thought I could become an Indian player. I used to give my 100% in those matches. When I started playing in the league, it was the first time I touched a leather ball. I didn’t know anything about swing and seam. But in my debut match, I still managed to take five wickets. Gradually, as I continued playing, my confidence grew. I never had the thought of playing for India, but I kept enjoying the game.”
Finally, Siraj expressed his happiness in playing Test matches for India and stated that it is an honour for him. He also mentioned that if his father were alive, he would be proud of him because playing Test cricket is a matter of respect and honour.
