The year 2023 is very important for Virat Kohli. This year he is completing his 15 years in international cricket. The World Cup is also going to happen this year and Kohli will have a rare chance to win this trophy twice. Earlier he was also a part of the 2011 World Cup winning squad.
It will be Kohli’s 500th international match when he comes out in the second Test against the West Indies. Coach Rahul Dravid was all praise for Kohli’s achievement and said that it is his discipline that has made him last so long in international cricket.
He is definitely an inspiration to many players, he said ahead of the Port of Spain Test. His statistics speak for his greatness. But what matters most to me is the hard work they put in behind the scenes when no one is looking. That’s why he is going to play his 500th international match.”
Dravid further said, “After a long career of 12-13 years and playing almost 500 matches, Virat is still very fit and his enthusiasm is worth watching. This is really great. All this is not easily available. This is possible because he works hard behind the scenes. He has made a lot of sacrifices during his career and he wants to continue to do so. It is a pleasure to have such players as a coach. Many young players can take inspiration from him.

Dravid first played with Kohli in the Royal Challengers Bangalore team during IPL 2008. A year later they came together in the ODI team. In 2011, both played Tests together on the West Indies tour. The match in which Kohli scored his maiden century was Dravid’s final Test.
“It’s been a pleasure to witness Virat’s journey from such close quarters,” Dravid said. He was young when I was playing. Then came a phase when I was not a part of the team in any way, but was watching and appreciating Virat’s rise from afar. Now in the last 18 months as coach, I have got to know Virat better.
I learn a lot from him and also enjoy his company.
