The former Indian cricketer and current famous expert Aakash Chopra has announced the ODI Team of the Year for 2023. Along with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, his team includes six Indians, but surprisingly, he did not take any single player from the Australian team that won the World Cup 2023. Players like David Warner and Mitchell Marsh were among the top 10 run-scorers in the World Cup 2023. Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood were also among the top 10 wicket-takers bowlers. Chopra has appointed Rohit Sharma as the captain of his ODI Team of the Year.
Aakash Chopra shared this announcement of the ODI Team of the Year on his YouTube channel. The top 3 players in the team are Indians. Aakash has chosen Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as the opening batsmen, while he has kept Virat Kohli at number 3.
Rohit Sharma has scored 1255 runs in 27 matches with an average of 52 and a striking rate of 117, including two centuries and nine half-centuries. He was also the captain of the team that guided India to the finals of the 2023 World Cup without losing a single match.
Shubman Gill, in 2023, played 29 matches and scored 1584 runs at an average of 63 and a strike rate of 105, he featured five centuries and nine half-centuries. Meanwhile, Kohli secured 1377 runs in 27 matches in 2023 with an average of 72, including 6 centuries and 8 half-centuries. Kohli was honored as the Player of the Tournament in the 2023 World Cup. He even marked his 50th ODI century during the tournament.
Aakash Chopra included Daryl Mitchell and Mohammad Rizwan for the number 4 and 5 positions in his team. Rizwan will take on the team’s wicketkeeper role. Aakash Chopra did not choose KL Rahul for this position.
The all-rounder roles in his team will be played by Shakib Al Hasan and Marco Jansen. In 2023, Jansen scored 406 runs and grabbed 33 wickets in 20 matches.
Regarding the bowling attack in Aakash Chopra’s Team of the Year, it features three Indians – Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj – another pace bowler included is South African Gerald Coetzee.
