In the ODI World Cup, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Sourav Ganguly, Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, and Virat Kohli have all scored two or more hundred.

The ICC One-Day International World Cup will begin in around three months. Every time a new record is set in the World Cup, another is broken. Many more records are expected to be broken during this year’s World Cup. Today’s topic is such records that have already been made. Till now there are 14 Indian players who have scored a century in ODI World Cup. Out of these 7 Indian players have scored a century two or more times. All of these players share another trait in that they have all captained the Indian team.
Let us now look at their World Cup records.

Sachin Tendulkar: The first name in this list comes from the God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin Tendulkar has played 6 World Cup tournaments in his career and has played a total of 45 World Cup matches. He scored 2278 runs with a strike rate of 88.98 and an average of 56.95. In these 45 matches, Sachin Tendulkar has scored 6 centuries and 15 half-centuries. His highest score has been 152. In the World Cup, Sachin has been dismissed for zero twice and has played unbeaten innings four times.

Rohit Sharma: The current captain of the Indian team has played in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups in his career so far. In the ODI World Cup, Rohit has played a total of 17 matches so far, in which he has scored 978 runs with a strike rate of 95.97 and an average of 65.20. Despite playing so few matches, Rohit Sharma’s name also includes 6 World Cup centuries and 3 half-centuries. Rohit Sharma had scored 5 centuries in the World Cup 2019 which is a record. His highest score in the World Cup is 140 which he made against Pakistan in the 2019 World Cup. He has played unbeaten innings twice and has also been dismissed for zero once.

Sourav Ganguly: Sourav Ganguly has played a total of 21 World Cup matches in his career. He has scored 2278 runs. He has a strike rate of 77.50 and an average of 55.88. Ganguly has scored a total of 4 centuries and 3 half-centuries in these 21 matches. Sourav Ganguly’s highest score in the World Cup is 183 runs.
He has played unbeaten innings 3 times and got out on zero once.

Shikhar Dhawan: Shikhar Dhawan has played only 10 ODI World Cup matches in his career so far. He has 537 runs scored at a strike rate of 94.21 and an average of 53.70. His maximum score is 137 runs. In these 10 matches, his name includes 3 centuries and one half-century. Shikhar Dhawan has never played an unbeaten innings in the World Cup but one special thing is that he has never been out on zero.

Rahul Dravid: Rahul Dravid played 22 matches in ODI World Cup during his career. He scored 860 runs with a strike rate of 74.97 and an average of 61.42. He contains only two centuries as well as six half-centuries. His highest score is 145 runs. Rahul Dravid has played a total of 7 unbeaten innings and has never been dismissed for zero.

Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli has played 26 ODI World Cup matches so far. In this time, he has scored 1030 runs at an average of 46.81 and a strike rate of 86.70. He has played 2 centuries and 6 half-century innings. Virat’s World Cup maximum score is 107 runs. Virat has also never been out on zero. He has 4 unbeaten innings to his name.

Virender Sehwag: Virender Sehwag has played 22 World Cup matches during his career. Sehwag, who scored 843 runs, has a strike rate of 106.17 and an average of 38.31. He has played the highest innings of 175 runs. Viru never returned unbeaten and was dismissed for zero once.

Sourav Ganguly has led Team India in the majority of One-Day Internationals

Now if we look at his captaincy in the ODI team, then Dada i.e. Sourav Ganguly has led the Indian team in a total of 146 ODIs. Whereas Lord Sachin Tendulkar has taken command of the Indian team in 73 ODIs. Rahul Dravid has captained 79, while Virat Kohli has captained 95 ODIs. Virender Sehwag and Shikhar Dhawan have captained the Indian team in 12-12 matches. Current captain Rohit Sharma is leading with the captaincy of 26 ODIs so far.
