India defeated New Zealand by 70 runs on Wednesday to reach the ODI World Cup final for the fourth time where they will face the winner of the second final between Australia and South Africa. India had scored 397 runs on Wednesday, in which a big contribution was also made by Shreyas Iyer who scored 105 runs in 70 balls. After this inning, Iyer said that he was very angry at the beginning of the World Cup.
Iyer was not able to play well in the first few matches of the World Cup. He could not open his account against Australia. His bat also did not work against Bangladesh and England. However, in the last four matches, he proved himself by scoring two half-centuries and two centuries.
Shreyas Iyer proved himself
Iyer said after the match, ‘I did not perform well in the first 1-2 matches. I was getting good starts but I was not able to convert them into big innings. If you look at the statistics, I was unbeaten against Afghanistan and Pakistan but the next two innings were not good. People started saying that I had some problems. Inside I was quite angry, I was not showing it but knew that my time would come and then I would prove myself. And that time has come at the right time.
Rohit praised Shreyas Iyer
Rohit praised the contribution of the batsmen in helping the team reach the big target. He said, “The top five batsmen of the team are in great form. Whenever he has got an opportunity, he has taken advantage of it. It is great to see what Iyer has done for us in this tournament. Gill, the way he batted for us was fantastic. Unfortunately, he had to go out with cramps. Kohli did what he is known for. He also completed his historic century.
