IND vs WI: Sachin Tendulkar and Vivian Richards have also failed… Curtly Ambrose on Kohli

IND vs WI: Curtly Ambrose said that when a player in Virat Kohli's class plays for so long, So there are phases in his career when he does not score big.

IND vs WI: Virat Kohli ended the century jinx versus the West Indies in the second Test at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. It was his first century abroad in red-ball cricket since November 2019. This was his first hundred outside Asia since 2018. He averaged well below 30 for the three years between 2020 and 2022. Yet Kohli currently averages 49.29 in Tests. He has scored 8676 runs. He is currently the third-highest run-scorer among active batsmen.

Virat Kohli has 29 centuries in his name. Which is equal to Australian legend Don Bradman. Despite not being at his best for three years, Kohli’s record is still unfathomable for most batsmen in the world. This is the biggest evidence of his greatness. This is the reason why even an inning of 60 or 70 runs seems like a failure for him.

Such a phase comes in the career of a player of Kohli’s class

The trouble for Virat Kohli is the ball outside the off-side. He has often been criticized for being dismissed in this manner. Perhaps this weakness is preventing him from scoring big. He has also been seen struggling against leg spin and left-arm spin in recent times, But former West Indies fast bowler Curtly Ambrose does not consider this as Kohli’s weakness. Instead, the respected cricketer remarked that when a player of Kohli’s calibre plays for such an extended period of time, So there are phases in his career when he does not score big. He said that Caribbean veteran Vivian Richards and Master Blaster have also been dismissed on low scores.

What did Ambrose say regarding Kohli?

“Every batsman has difficulties at certain points in his career,” Ambrose mentioned. I think batsmen are the ones who struggle the most at the beginning of their innings. Maybe this happens in the beginning after every break. I do not like talking about batsmen being weak here or weak there. Any batsman can be dismissed. It doesn’t matter how great you are. I will not speak on this topic as I do not give importance to such things.

Ambrose named Tendulkar and Richards for praising Kohli

The veteran player, who has taken more than 600 international wickets, cited the examples of Sachin Tendulkar and Vivian Richards in support of Virat Kohli. “Vivian Richards was great, and he also faced this phase of getting out on a low score,” he claimed. Sachin Tendulkar was great and he too got out with a low score. All the great batsmen have been dismissed for low scores at one time or the other. I am not one of those people who would talk about if a batsman has this weakness, then that weakness can get any batsman out.
