IND vs WI: Yuzvendra Chahal is counted among the best spinners in the world in the limited overs format. He also performed amazingly in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is also an essential part of the Indian team. But in recent times, Chahal is not able to become a regular part of the playing XI.
Chahal is not worried
Indian team is playing T20 International Series (WI vs IND T20I Series) in West Indies. After this big tournaments like Asia Cup and World Cup are to be held. But Chahal is not worried about whether he will be selected or not. Chahal said in the press conference before the second T20 between India and West Indies, ‘At the moment I have to do well in the four matches. I think one step at a time. After this series, we will go to the camp and then the team will be announced. I am not thinking about Asia Cup or World Cup right now.
Team combination is the most important
Chahal did not get a chance to play a single match in the three ODI series against the West Indies. In the first match of the T20 series, he took two wickets in his name.
Chahal said, ‘Team combination is our priority and this is not something new.’
He further said, ‘At number seven, we usually give a chance to Ravindra Jadejaya or Akshar Patel. Three spinners can play only when the wicket is helpful for a spin. Kuldeep is bowling very well. He is in perfect rhythm and that is why the team is supporting him. I keep working hard at the nets so that whenever I get a chance, I can grab it.
Cricket is a team sport
Chahal said that not being a regular part of the team does not bother him as cricket is not an individual game.
He said, ‘We are professional cricketers. I was playing after two months. I played the last match in IPL.
It is all a matter of preparation. It is all a matter of preparation. This is not an individual game. You are here playing for your team. There have also been times when players had to sit out for two series. So it does not mean that they are not part of the team. I am very happy that I get a chance to wear the blue jersey every day. I am not sitting at home. I am traveling with the team. I am part of the team.
He further said, ‘I have played chess. It is an individual sport but cricket is a team sport. Out of 15 people on the team, only 11 can play. In the last few series in which I was playing, Kuldeep was not getting a chance.
Chahal praises West Indies
India had to face defeat by four runs in the first T20 International against West Indies. But Chahal is hopeful that the Indian team will make a comeback.
This spinner of Team India said, ‘We still have to play four more matches. I think West Indies should get credit for the fact that they played better cricket. Many people feel that we are playing against the West Indies, so we should win 5-0. It’s not like that. The important thing is who performs better on the day of the match.
