IND W vs AUS W 1st T20I: The Indian women’s team clinched a resounding victory against Australia by 9 wickets in the first T20 match. Due to Titas Sadhu’s 4 wickets in the match played in Navi Mumbai, India bundled Australia for 141 runs in 19.2 overs. In response, the Indian women’s team lost one wicket and crushed Australia by 9 wickets with the help of half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma.
India won the match by scoring 145 runs for one wicket in 17.4 overs.
Chasing the target of 142 runs by Australia, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana provided India a bang start and set the stage for the team’s victory. Smriti Mandhana scored 54 runs in 52 balls. Shefali remained unbeaten on 64 off 44 balls. By winning the first match of the three-match T20 series, India has taken a 1-0 lead.
Earlier, the Indian women’s team bowled out Australia for 141 runs in 19.2 overs owing to the career-best exceptional performance of Titas Sadhu (4 wickets for 17 runs). Apart from Sadhu, Deepti Sharma took two wickets for 24 runs, and Shreyanka Patil took two wickets conceding 19 runs.
After Sadhu took three wickets in the beginning, Phoebe Lichfield (49 runs) and Ellyse Perry (37 runs) shared a 79-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take Australia to this score.
Titas Sadhu’s career-best bowling performance
Titas Sadhu clinched three wickets for eight runs in three overs in her first spell in the powerplay, in which she claimed the wickets of Beth Mooney (17), Tahlia McGrath (0), and Ashleigh Gardner (0). The right-arm fast bowler got her fourth wicket in her final over (18th of the innings) in the form of Annabel Sutherland (12).
India improved their fielding a lot and restricted a lot of runs. But Phoebe Litchfield was dropped in the 12th over when she was on 27 runs. She was attempting a reverse sweep off Deepti’s delivery but it was dropped due to confusion between Renuka Singh and Jemimah Rodrigues.
Lichfield fell victim to Amanjot Kaur (one wicket for 23 runs) in the 15th over, whose catch was caught by Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Harmanpreet grabbed four catches in the match.
