Is Cheteshwar Pujara's path to Team India closed? This BCCI source's remark gave the answer
"Once he failed in the Australian series at home, he had very few chances," a BCCI source explained. "But the selectors didn't want to change things before the WTC final."

The Board of Control for Cricket in India, ie BCCI, did the Test and ODI for the West Indies tour on Friday. Some new players were entered in both these squads, and senior players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav were dropped from the Test team. Cheteshwar Pujara is the biggest name among them. Cheteshwar Pujara’s form has not been good for some time. He was setting the tone for county cricket, but could not do anything special for Team India. In such a case, the selection has once again shown him the exit route from the squad.

In such a case, when Cheteshwar Pujara has left out of the selection again, there were whispers in the cricketing hallways about whether the doors of selection India were now permanently closed to him.

When Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were dropped from the home series against Sri Lanka last time, former chief selector Chetan Sharma had said that the door is not closed for the two batsmen to make a comeback. If he has to come back and make a place in Team India, he will have to perform well in first-class cricket.

Cheteshwar Pujara made runs in county cricket after being dropped from the Sri Lanka series. During this, he also scored a century and a double century. Cheteshwar Pujaar seemed to have regained his lost form, due to which he was given a chance against New Zealand in the first final of the World Test Championship in England in 2021. Because of this opportunity, Cheteshwar Pujara could also cross the 100-match figure in Test cricket.

Cheteshwar Pujara made a lot of runs in county cricket, but his performance for Team India was average. Barring the Chattogram match on the Bangladesh tour, he has not scored more runs with his bat. Pujara also let everyone down in the home series against Australia prior to the WTC final.

A BCCI source in the know of the development told PTI on condition of anonymity, “Once he failed in the Australia series at home, there were plenty of opportunities for him, but the selectors wanted to turn things around before the WTC final. didn’t want to

The source further added, “The failures of two innings at The Oval sealed his fate. SS Das was in London for the World Test  Championship final. He must have talked like chief coach Rahul Dravid and told about his panel thought process after the final.

Apart from Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli’s bat has also not scored many runs in red-ball cricket for some time, but the source says that so many changes cannot be made on a large scale at once. At the same time, there has been a significant gap in Kohli and Pujara’s rhythm.

“It’s a two-year cycle, and you can’t just make massive changes,” the insider explained. Pujara hasn’t scored in three years. There has been a rhythmic difference between Virat Kohli and Pujara. Yes, Kohli’s time has also been dry, but he has never seemed out of place. Pujaar never convinced you that he was in fine shape after his tour of Australia. The intention was another matter. The two innings versus Bangladesh had no bearing on the outcome.
