The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced India’s Test squad for the tour of West Indies, in which Sarfaraz Khan, who scored a mountain of runs in domestic cricket, was ignored. Many people have been asking on social media why Sarfaraz was not picked for the team despite his outstanding performance.
Meanwhile, there has been a big disclosure about Sarfaraz not being added to India’s Test team. Significantly, right-handed batsman Sarfaraz has scored 2566 runs in the last three Ranji Trophy seasons. He has 928 runs scored in the 2019/20 season, 982 runs in the 2021-22 season and 656 runs in the 2022-23 season. Sarfaraz scored these runs at an impressive average but was still overlooked and Maharashtra’s Rituraj Gaikwad was selected.
Now, quoting BCCI sources, it has been reported that Sarfaraz’s off-field attitude and fitness level are the main reasons for his non-selection. A BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity, “The angry reaction is understandable, but I can tell you that the reason for Sarfaraz being ignored again is different from cricket. There are many reasons, why Sarfaraz Khan has not got a place in the Indian team.
The official further said, “Are the selectors foolish not to consider the name of a player who has scored more than 900 runs in consecutive seasons? One reason is his fitness, which is not up to international standards. Sarfaraz will have to work hard. They have to lose weight and come back slimmer. He has to be fit. He should know that only batting fitness is not enough for selection.
According to the media, the official ultimately stated, “Sarfaraz Khan’s attitude both on and off the field is not good.” There are certain things said, certain gestures or incidents that people take note of. A little more disciplinary thinking would be better for them. it is expected that Sarfaraz will focus on these things with his father and coach, Naushad Khan.
Let us tell you that Sarfaraz represented Delhi Capitals in 4 matches of IPL 2023, in which he could score only 53 runs at a strike rate of just 85.48.
