NZ vs BAN 3rd ODI: New Zealand vs Bangladesh 3rd ODI was played on Saturday 23 December in which Bangladesh defeated New Zealand badly. Bangladesh has defeated New Zealand in their own home for the first time in ODI cricket. This is a big victory for Bangladesh. After losing the first two matches, the visiting team won the toss in the third match and decided to field first. The bowlers proved their captain’s decision right did not disappoint him and bowled aggressively. Bangladesh bowlers were very aggressive and bowled brilliantly even on pitches with swing, seam, and extra bounce.
Tanzim Hasan Saqib bowled brilliantly with the new ball and took some important wickets in the first powerplay which included the wickets of Rachin Ravindra and Henry Nicholls. Just when it looked like Young and Latham would rebuild the innings, Shoriful came back to remove both batsmen.
The left-arm fast bowler took three wickets in three overs in his second spell and Saqib also added another wicket to his account. Soumya Sarkar took three wickets while eliminating the lower-order batsmen. The host Kiwi team collapsed on the score of only 98 runs.
In reply, Bangladesh ensured that they had no problems chasing runs. Soumya Sarkar had some problem with his right eye, so he played only 16 balls and retired hurt and walked out of the field. After Soumya’s departure, Shanto and Anamul scored a flurry of boundaries against the Kiwi team.
Although New Zealand got the wicket of Anamul, it was too late. Captain Shanto completed his half-century by hitting the winning four. The target of 99 runs was achieved by Bangladesh with 34.5 overs remaining.
This was the last match of the three-match ODI series and Bangladesh won the match and ended the series 1-2. The New Zealand team has already won the series and had defeated the visiting team in both the initial matches.
Tanzim Hasan Shakib got the Man of the Match for his better performance while New Zealand batsman Will Young was awarded the Player of the Series award.
NZ vs BAN T20 series to begin now
Now there is to be a series of three T20 matches between New Zealand and Bangladesh. Because of the Test series to be held between New Zealand and South Africa, Kane Williamson and Kylie Jemminson have already withdrawn their names from the T20 series. New Zealand’s coach says that he wants to keep both his players fit so that they can perform well in the upcoming Test series.
Kane Williamson is also the captain of this series, therefore it becomes very important for him to play the Test series against South Africa. In such a situation, Mitchell Santner is going to lead the New Zealand T20 team, which is to start on December 27.
