After dismissing Khawaja in the first Test of the Ashes, it seemed that Robinson had used profanity.

Ashes 2023: During the first Test of the Ashes, England fast bowler Olly Robinson was scuttled after dismissing Usman Khawaja in the first innings. It seemed that his tone was quite aggressive and abuses were also used in it.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has said in reference to that incident that England fast bowler Olly Robinson should have shown his skills in bowling in the same way as he did during the Edgbaston Test. Ponting believes Robinson needs to back up his words with his bowling skills.

If the words that appear in the video are to be heard, Robinson used words like “F** off, you f**ing prick” after Khawaja was dismissed. Ponting was doing commentary for Sky Sports during that match. During that time he did not say anything in the context of this incident throughout the match, but during the ICC Review podcast, he has given his opinion on this matter.

Ricky Ponting said “I took after Olly Robinson’s words that t his England cricket team has yet to face Australia. They will know very quickly what it is like to play against a good Australian cricket team in the Ashes.” What do you mean? If Robinson hasn’t learned it by now, he’s a pretty slow learner.”

They will soon learn that if you talk like this to Australian cricketers in an Ashes series, you must back it up with your bowling skills.

The 29-year-old fast bowler was asked about this during the press conference after Potting’s third day’s play, saying he “didn’t care” how Australia viewed his behaviour. Robinson also cited the example of Ricky Ponting during the same conversation.

Olli Robinson said “Ricky Ponting and other Australian players treat us the same way. We’ve all seen it. If someone else did the same thing this time, people would be offended.”

Responding to this, Ponting said, “He put my name in it, which I found a bit unusual. He is concerned about what I did 15 years ago. If you are thinking about him then you can understand how his bowling would have been. This can be understood from his bowling figures in the match itself.”

“He’s going to find out very quickly that if you talk like this to Australian cricketers in an Ashes series, you have to back it up with your bowling skills.”

Apart from these things, Ponting also said that it is not that defeat or victory has no effect on England. Citing the example of Ben Stokes’ post-match statement, he said that it seemed that he was quite upset with the defeat.

Ponting said, “I have heard him saying that the result of the match does not affect him. However, I do not think so at all. This is the Ashes series and this is the biggest challenge for the captaincy career of Ben Stokes.” Stokes had said that ‘all the players had failed to perform in unison in the closing stages of the match’. For that reason, I felt that the result of the match definitely affects them and rightly so. The result of the match should affect you.”
