The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is to be hosted by America and West Indies. A few days ago, South African coach Rob Walter said that the door is not completely closed for senior cricketers like Faf Du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, and Riley Rossouw to return from retirement. These days, Faf Du Plessis participates in the top T20 leagues around the world, he is the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Faf Du Plessis is working hard on his fitness these days and has also expressed his desire to make a comeback to the team. Duplessis has the option of returning to the national team. But before thinking seriously about it, he wants to achieve complete fitness.
Du Plessis had an elbow operation done in September and hence he wants to be fully fit before thinking about such a possibility. Du Plessis said, ‘I would not say that the process for this (return to the South Africa team) is not going on.
What I mean to say is that international cricket is still the pinnacle of this game. You still feel that this is the place where you feel the most pressure in cricket and where you feel alive as a player.
He said, ‘I have just returned to cricket after the operation. Right now I am not taking any pressure and am enjoying cricket again and trying to get my hand back to its previous condition. Du Plessis said, ‘This (return to the South African team) is just a process right now.
Cricket South Africa has said that T20 players will be given contracts in March. Therefore, it is the players’ job to perform well and ensure that they are eligible for selection.
