The inaugural match will be played between Delhi and Mumbai

The first match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be played between last season’s winning team Mumbai Indians and runners-up Delhi Capitals. Last season, both teams managed to make it to the finals while performing well. This time too, the team of Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals is being counted among the strongest teams of the tournament. In such a situation, both teams will try to start the tournament with a win.

All matches will be held at two venues

Significantly, the first season was played entirely in Mumbai, but this time the entire tournament will be played in two cities Delhi and Bengaluru. The matches will be played in Bengaluru from 23 February to 4 March. At the same time, all the matches will be held in the national capital Delhi from March 5. There will be no double-header this season and a team will have to play back-to-back games continuously in a gap of one day.

WPL 2024 format

In WPL 2024 too, like last season, the top three teams in the league stage will qualify for the playoffs. The top team in the league stage will directly qualify for the final. The eliminator will be played between the second-positioned and third-placed teams. Last year, Mumbai Indians, led by India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated Delhi Capitals by seven wickets to win the WPL title.

The first season was played entirely in Mumbai

The WPL was planned to be held in a home-and-away model like the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the BCCI is facing challenges regarding it. The first season was played entirely in Mumbai. Like the Bengaluru leg, the Delhi leg will also begin with a match between last year’s finalists Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. All the Delhi’s matches will be played at the Late Arun Jaitley Stadium.
