The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have rejected the demand of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to change the venue of two ODI World Cup matches to be held in India in October-November. According to a report published on Wednesday by Cricbuzz, the BCCI and the ICC decided to reject PCB’s application after a meeting on Tuesday. PCB has been informed about this joint decision.
According to the report, the PCB had demanded a change of venue for the matches against Afghanistan in Chennai and against Australia in Bengaluru. The ICC and the BCCI said in a message to the PCB that they have no reason to change the venue at this time. Venues in ICC events can be changed for security reasons, although Pakistan did not specify a reason in its application.
It is noteworthy that in 2016 the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match had to be shifted from Dharamshala to Kolkata due to security reasons. Chennai and Bangalore are considered the safest options for Pakistan. Former PCB chairman Najam Sethi also had objections about India playing in Ahmedabad, but his request was also not considered.
Although the BCCI and ICC have not yet announced the complete schedule of the ODI World Cup. According to Cricbuzz, this announcement may happen during an event in Mumbai next week.
