The cricket boards of India and Pakistan are now at conflict over the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup. Both countries were not directly competing in these tournaments, but because of tensions between the ACC and ICC, these tournaments were under threat. So yet, there has been no clarity on Pakistan’s participation in both tournaments, although media sources indicate that the situation is being sorted.
As President of the Asian Cricket Council, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah can accept the PCB’s hybrid format for the Asia Cup. All teams, including Pakistan, will play their matches in Pakistan in this situation. Meanwhile, the Indian squad will play matches in Sri Lanka at Galle and Pallekele stadiums. Furthermore, the PCB has prepared their team for the ODI World Cup, which will be hosted in India.
The ACC may make a formal statement about hosting the Asia Cup on Tuesday. Following the official acceptance of the hybrid model, the route will be cleared for Pakistan’s ODI World Cup journey to India in October-November. Pakistan is ready as well to play in Ahmedabad.
The members of the ACC Executive Board have been tasked with resolving the Asia Cup hosting issue. Pankaj Khimji, the chairman of the Oman Cricket Board, was also among those named. The majority of countries did not desire a hybrid model. However, four matches have already been scheduled at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, in which the Indian squad will not compete.
Pakistan will play Nepal, Bangladesh will play Afghanistan, Afghanistan will play Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka will play Bangladesh.
On the condition of anonymity, an ACC board member stated, “Two matches between India and Pakistan, as well as all other Super Four matches, will be played in Pallekele or Galle.” The Asia Cup will take played in September.”
According to media reports, when ICC CEO Geoff Allardice and Chairman Greg Barclay visited Karachi to see PCB Chairman Najam Sethi, they met with PCB Chairman Najam Sethi. It was determined that Pakistan will not impose any conditions on its participation in the World Cup in India. Since all four Asia Cup matches are hosted in Pakistan. Because the PCB owns hosting rights for this tournament.
Two Asia Cup matchups between Pakistan and India have been confirmed. If both teams make it to the final, there will be a third match. Matches between these two countries generate a lot of revenue for broadcasters. Furthermore, if Pakistan does not participate in the Asia Cup, the tournament’s media rights are devalued. The ACC suffered enormous losses as a result.
With the development of the hybrid model in this regard, The way for Pakistan to compete in the ODI World Cup has become evident. The World Cup match between India and Pakistan may be held in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s remaining matches may be played in Chennai or Hyderabad.
