Mahendra Singh Dhoni goes to the nets and bowls to Dinesh Karthik and I tell him why are you doing it? He is your opponent..… If he keeps doing well then you won’t be able to play….. and anyway, you are not a bowler…. Go wicket-keeping….. do batting….. but why bowling?
Expert Aakash Chopra further said, ‘Dhoni said don’t stop me, I have to bowl, if you want to bat, you can do it too, but I have to bowl. Looking back, the meaning of that incident is understood that Dhoni was competing with neither Dinesh Karthik nor anyone else, Dhoni’s rival was only one and he was himself. Because of this, he has been able to reach where only he is able to reach.
A few months after this incident, Dhoni got a place in the Indian team and he made his debut against Bangladesh in December 2004.
