Glenn Maxwell plays for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Maxwell said that IPL is a very important tournament for him and he will continue to play it. Glenn Maxwell will be seen captaining the Melbourne Stars in BBL 2023-24.

There is good news for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans, Australia’s star batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has said that he will keep playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) until his legs stop moving. Glenn Maxwell will soon be seen captaining the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24, which starts from December 7. Melbourne Stars will begin their BBL 2023-24 campaign against Brisbane Heat tomorrow at the Gabba. Maxwell said that he feels that the last tournament of his career will be IPL, which he will continue to play.

Maxwell played his first IPL season in 2012. He played IPL 2012 for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). In 2013, Mumbai Indians had bet 1 million dollars (about Rs 8.33 crore) on Glenn Maxwell. However, his successful IPL season came in 2014, when he scored 552 runs at a strike rate of 187.75 while playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).

After this, Maxwell’s performance in IPL was nothing special. RCB bet on Maxwell in IPL Auction 2021.
RCB bought Maxwell for Rs 14.25 crore. After this, he scored 513, 301, and 400 runs in three consecutive seasons. Maxwell led RCB to victory in some matches where it seemed very difficult for them to win.

Maxwell said on ESPNCricinfo, ‘I think IPL will be the last tournament that I will play till the end of my career. I will keep playing IPL until I stop walking. I was talking about how IPL has been very important for my career. The people I met, the coaches I played under, and the international players I rubbed shoulders with, this tournament has been very important for my career.

Maxwell said, ‘You lived with players like AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli for two months, talked with them while watching different games, it has been the best learning experience for any player.’ Maxwell also explained why playing in the IPL before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 could prove to be very important. He said that he wants more and more Australian players to get a chance to play in IPL 2024 because the pitches in West Indies will be dry and the ball will spin there, which can be like Indian conditions. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is to be hosted by West Indies and America.

Called David Warner a champion

On the same occasion, Maxwell was also asked about the ongoing dispute between David Warner and Mitchell Johnson. Maxwell said, ‘I don’t want to bring my name into the headlines by speaking about this, but David Warner has always been a champion. He has played cricket for Australia for a long time and the selectors know why they have selected Warner. I am very excited to see him play in the first Test against Pakistan. I hope he will score a lot of runs this summer.
