Afghanistan Squad for IND vs AFG T20I Series: Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Saturday announced its squad for the T20 International series against India. ACB has announced a 19-member Afghanistan squad for the three-match T20 series to be played in India. Ibrahim Zadran will be seen captaining. Afghanistan’s star spin Rashid Khan has also got a place but there is an issue. Regular T20I captain Rashid may not take the field in any match against India as he is recovering from back surgery. Rashid had undergone a back surgery in England after the ODI World Cup ended.
The India vs Afghanistan series will begin in Mohali on January 11. The second match will be played in Indore while the third T20 will be played in Bengaluru. Let us inform you that the T20 series is going to be organized for the first time between India and Afghanistan. Ibrahim Zadran recently led Afghanistan in the T20 series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Afghanistan won the series 2–1.
Spinner Mujeeb your Rahman has returned, who was not part of the UAE series. Mujeeb, fast bowlers Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi had expressed their desire to stay out of the central contract list for 2024. In response to this, the ACB imposed a ban on the three players from playing in their T20 leagues for the next two years and cancelled any NOCs they currently have. Naveen and Farooqui are also included in the squad. Ikram Alikhil who was a reserve player against UAE has been promoted as a backup wicketkeeper-batsman in the India series.
ACB chairman Mirwais Ashraf said, “We are delighted for our first tour of the three-match series to India.
India is the top-ranked team in the world and it will be very pleasing to see the Afghan team compete against them in the three-match T20I. We believe that the Afghanistan team is no longer weak and has done well in the recent past and we expect a highly competitive series against India.”
