India squad for IND vs AFG T20 series: The BCCI announced the Indian squad for the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan on Sunday. Regular captain Rohit Sharma and veteran batsman Virat Kohli have returned to the shortest format after 14 months. Rohit is going to retake charge of the T20 team.
Rohit and Kohli last played a T20 match in the T20 World Cup 2022. Both had expressed their desire to play in the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29. The Afghanistan series is India’s last T20 International series before the T20 World Cup.
Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are not part of the squad. All three are recovering from injury. Suryakumar suffered a leg injury on the tour of South Africa while Hardik suffered an ankle injury during the World Cup 2023. Hardik did not play in the South Africa and Australia T20 series.
Both can be fully fit before IPL 2024. At the same time, batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad was not available for selection due to a finger injury. Let us tell you that the teams of India and Afghanistan will play the first T20 series. The series will begin in Mohali on January 11. The second match will be in Indore and the third T20 in Bengaluru.
