IND W vs AUS W Test: Australia women’s cricket team captain Alyssa Healy on Sunday said that her team’s first defeat against India in the one-off Test is not a shock and their aim is to win the T20 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh next year. The Indian women’s team registered a historic first win over a mighty Australian team in the one-off Test, ending their first ‘home season’ of Test cricket in 28 years on a high. This is India’s first win against Australia in 11 Tests.

When Alyssa was asked how she viewed the loss considering their dominant record, she told the media, “Probably not even a shock. This is a format where we are not very familiar with the circumstances.”

Alyssa said that there has been a lot of change in the Australian team but they are comfortable with the situation they are in at the moment. “Within the team, we’re comfortable with where we are and the way we’re progressing and where we want to go,” she said.

Alyssa said, “The T20 World Cup is to be held in Bangladesh late next year and this is a real opportunity for us. “These are big trophies we want to win.”

“Yes, every series between now and then is important but at the same time, we are preparing for that World Cup and want to make sure we play our best cricket to win those big moments.”

The T20 World Cup is to be held in Bangladesh in September-October next year while the 2025 ODI World Cup will be played in India. Alyssa knows that women’s cricket is currently dominated by white-ball cricket but said she would like to see more Test cricket on the program.

“We would like to see as many (Test matches) as possible and three matches will provide real competition,” she said. “But the nature of the women’s game at the moment is that white-ball matches are dominant and attempts are being made to fit red-ball matches into the program,” Alyssa said. Alyssa credited India’s success to its bowlers who bowled brilliantly throughout the match.
