Akash Chopra has shared an anecdote related to Captain Cool MS Dhoni, in which Mahi's selflessness is clearly visible. This story is from 2004 when Dhoni did not even make his debut in the Indian team.

There is no doubt that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most successful captains of the world. MS Dhoni i.e. Mahi retired from international cricket a long time ago, but the stories related to him are still making headlines in the corridors of cricket.

Recently, former Indian batsman and current expert Aakash Chopra has shared an anecdote related to Captain Cool MS Dhoni on his Twitter account, in which Mahi’s selflessness is clearly visible. This story is from 2004 when Dhoni had not even made his debut.

Aakash Chopra narrates this story in his video, ‘India A Tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya in the year 2004… Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the reserve wicket keeper and Dinesh Karthik is the player who is playing in 11. Mahendra Singh Dhoni goes to the nets and bowls to Dinesh Karthik and I tell him why are you doing it? He is your opponent..… If he keeps doing well then you won’t be able to play….. and anyway, you are not a bowler…. Go wicket-keeping….. do batting….. but why bowling?

Expert Aakash Chopra further said, ‘Dhoni said don’t stop me, I have to bowl, if you want to bat, you can do it too, but I have to bowl. Looking back, the meaning of that incident is understood that Dhoni was competing with neither Dinesh Karthik nor anyone else, Dhoni’s rival was only one and he was himself. Because of this, he has been able to reach where only he is able to reach.

A few months after this incident, Dhoni got a place in the Indian team and he made his debut against Bangladesh in December 2004. Dhoni took such a step in international cricket that for many years the search for another wicketkeeper ended. It also had an impact on the careers of many emerging wicketkeepers.

Well, if we talk about Dhoni’s international career, he has played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20 matches. At the same time, he has been the most successful captain in the world as well as the best finisher. There is also a world record of winning three ICC trophies T20 World Cup, 50 Over Cricket World Cup and Champions Trophy while being the captain in the name of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
